Natural Immunity Boosting Drink with Manuka Honey

Boosting your immunity naturally is an excellent way to keep yourself healthy and prevent illnesses such as colds and flu's. One way to do this is by drinking a soothing warm elixir that's supercharged with natural ingredients to help boost your immune system. This elixir is made up of several ingredients such as ginger, honey, lemon, turmeric, and cinnamon.

Apple Cider Vinegar is an ancient folk remedy that has made a comeback in recent times. When using Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) you should always search for a brand that contains the ‘Mother’ which is a cloudy substance. These are strands of proteins, enzymes, and gut-friendly bacteria. Apple Cider Vinegar is also often used in wound care and even cleaning due to its antibacterial qualities¹.

Citrus fruits are an excellent source of immune-boosting vitamin C. With the juice of one lemon and one orange, this recipe provides upwards of 100mg of vitamin C which provides you with the full (RDA) daily² dose.

Vitamin C is also known as L-ascorbic acid, which helps strengthen your immune system and has anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial benefits³.  It has also been shown to shorten the length of your cold or flu, and may have a positive effect on respiratory illness.

Turmeric is a root that is often used to colour curries. It’s also been used in Indian culture for centuries for medicinal purposes. Turmeric contains an active compound called Curcumin that has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a great antioxidant.

Ginger is another superfood that has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral effects. Loaded with antioxidants it can help prevent stress and damage to your body’s DNA. Studies have shown that fresh ginger may also help protect the respiratory system.

Manuka Honey not only naturally sweetens this drink but it also incorporates some special wellness properties of its own. Commonly used for a cold, it can help soothe a sore throat by coating the throat and reducing inflammation.  Manuka Honey also has proven positive effects when used on skin wounds and can help prevent the spread of harmful bacteria on the skin’s surface.
